Practice Area Overview
Rockland County Family Law Attorney and New City Divorce LawyerAt the law office of Nancy B. Morris in New City, New York, I promote negotiation and collaborative law as an alternative to litigation. Most conflicts are resolved by negotiation, but I, Nancy B. Morris, will diligently and zealously litigate your case if that is the best option for you. My areas of practice focus on the following: As a viable alternative dispute resolution model, the practice of Collaborative Law can be effective and successful in resolving legal matters and promoting improved relationships. In Collaborative Law, both parties openly communicate with each other and their lawyers about their common goals and concerns. In an open and unbiased forum, they can arrive at creative and workable solutions with reduced tension, anxiety and cost. I not only promote the Collaborative Law process, but also speak on the issue at conferences and seminars. Some clients come to me to dissolve a marriage. Others come to me to secure a new relationship. I am an attorney who has successfully handled many cases relating to dissolution of marriages, adoption of children, support, and pre and post-nuptial agreements. My family law practice includes child custody, visitation, child support and spousal support cases, with the ultimate goal of resolving the situation and avoiding the courtroom for the benefit of the couple and their children. My clients have the choice of collaborative divorce or traditional divorce with negotiation and/or litigation. Collaborative Divorce brings both parties together in an environment within their control. They make their own decisions instead of allowing a judge to make the final determination about their lives. As an experienced divorce lawyer, I prefer the collaborative setting, but will actively pursue litigation when it is the best option for a client. At my firm , I handle a wide variety of child custody cases for clients across Rockland County. Clients trust me, attorney Nancy B. Morris, to pursue their cases with professionalism and compassion. I can advise clients on the different types of custody and visitation, review parenting plan information, and assist with any other legal issues that may arise in conjunction with a child custody case, including relocation or modification to a child custody order. New York's child support guidelines are created by state statute. The guidelines use a set formula to calculate the amount of basic child support awarded. The combined, after-tax total incomes of each parent are used in making this sometimes complex calculation. I pride myself on being highly knowledgeable of the language of the New York child support laws and will explain how they apply to your situation.
